Jodhpur

Jodhpur is one of the largest city in Rajastan state. This city is known as sun city. The reason behind this is it enjoys sunny and bright days throughout the year. Jodhpur is a famous tourist place, it have many temples, forts, places and desert. History of Jodhpur says it was a city founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha. The name to this city is given after him only. Previously it was called Marwar. This city was a capital of Rathors. Originally Rathors are from Kaunaj, by Afghans. One of the Rathore prince, Rathore Siahaji married the sister of a local prince. Then after they established their empire in this city and then the formation and naming is done by Rao Jodha.

Jodhpur is one of the favorite tourism place in Rajastan State. Jodhpur city looks like an oasis in the vast desert. Their are numbers of tourist who specially come to visit and enjoy their time in jodhpur. There are many things about this city like culture, tradition, festivals, forts, lakes, weather which attracts tourist and increase tourism in Rajastan state.

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is the superlative and largest forts amongst all the forts in Jodhpur city. It was founded in 1949 by Rao jodha. To visit this fort you need to cross seven gates. You can find the sculptures of many battles fought in past era. Every gate speaks story of victories. One of the gate named Jayapol was built by Maharaja Man Singh which helped them to protect them from Jaipur and Bikaner armies and take victory on them. Fattehpol, gate was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh after defeating the Mughals.

Umaid Bhavan

Umaid Bhavan Palace is built by Maharaja Umaid Singh and named after him only. This palace has three hundred and forty seven rooms. The main purpose of building this palace is to provide employment for people for long period of time. The area covered by this palace is approximately one million square feet (90,000 m). For construction of this palace over three thousand artisans were employed. Another speciality of this palace is it is built by special type of sandstone, called Chittar sandstone which gave special appearance to this palace.

Jaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada – It is another palace which is situated left to Mehrangarh Fort. This palace was built by sun of Maharaja Jaswant Singh in his memory. It is one of the best example of architectural brilliance. It is built with white marble which have carved sheet of marble on it.

There are three cenotaphs which have beautiful marble jali work on it. One can have beautiful view from terrace in front of the cenotaph.

How to Reach

If you want to reach Jodhpur city by air, you need to get down at Jodhpur Airport which is located 5 km from the city center. For train travelers Jodhpur city have well constructed railway station. Which have many trains coming from many big cities. Once you reach Jodhpur you must hire a cab so that you can visit all the interesting locations with luxury and comfort.
